Celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism
The Sacrament of Baptism is the first of three Sacraments in the Order of Christian Initiation. Confirmation and Eucharist being the other two Sacraments.
It is the Parish Community who welcomes your child for Baptism and so there is a responsibility of the Parish and Parents to see that the gift of Eternal Life is nourished.
BAPTISMS 2024
Baptisms are now available any Saturday/Sunday (except every first Saturday of the month) at 12noon (including Lent) in both churches.

In our Parish, the Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated in the following way:
- Please contact the parish office 8379 1700/ cathedral@bbcatholic.org.au to check availability.
- The complete enrolment form can be returned to the Parish Office in person or via email cathedral@bbcatholic.org.au.
- Parents are to attend a 40-60 minute talk to discuss the Church’s expectations concerning Baptism. The Parent Talk is held on every first Saturday of the month at 11am.
Meet in the Cathedral Courtyard, Waitara.
- Kindly visit the Parish office to collect the Baptism workbook to read before the Parent Talk. (Office hours: 9am-4.30pm Mon-Fri)
Other important information:
- If you are not parishioners of Hornsby Cathedral Parish, please contact your Parish Priest and obtain a letter of permission for the baptism to take place in our parish. The letter of permission is to be submitted to the Cathedral Parish Office.
- One Godparent must be over the age sixteen, fully initiated and practising Catholic so as to be a good support for parents and a good role model for the child.
- Other Godparents must be over the age of sixteen and practising in their own Christian denomination.
- Baptism for children 7 years and older, please contact the Parish Office.
