The news of the verdict in Cardinal Pell's case is distressing to us all as disciples.
In the first place because it acutely reminds us of the suffering of so many who have been abused by those who were entrusted to minister in Christ's name. Our sorrow, our repentance, our grief over these evils can never be sufficient to address the pain of those who have been abused.
And also because it brings of course dismay to us in our own discipleship. Our hope though is founded in God who came amongst us in Jesus and who remains with us in the Holy Spirit. We are aware of, and take heart from knowing, the many many good servants of the Gospel who make up the People of God.
At this time as we await the outcome of Cardinal Pell's appeal we keep all involved in our prayers.
