Be there for me

Darcy is a Catholic kid in Year 5 at a public school. She and her friends are looking forward to their catechist returning to teach them about Jesus and his Church. While over 900 catechists are heading back to this wonderful work, some are not able to return at this time. So, can you be there for them as a relief catechist?

DarcyAlready there has been a positive response to the call for relief catechists. Some people have returned to the ministry after taking a break for a few years. Others are coming into the ministry because changed circumstances mean they have time. These relief catechists are doing Safeguarding training and will be offered a special introduction to managing classes with good lesson preparation.

Special pre-packaged lessons have been developed to make life easier for everyone. Students are already finding these digital screen resources most engaging. In the first lesson a Year 5 student asked, "Why does the picture of Jesus calming the storm have a blue sky?" The catechist replied, "Maybe it was a sun shower."

All jokes aside there are some parishes with a few classes that are yet to be covered. Frenchs Forest are looking for someone to be there on Wednesdays for Year 5 and 6. Ku-Ring-Gai Chase want someone for a while on Tuesday afternoons and Woy Woy Parish need people to fill most days of the week.

There are Catholic kids in all these places who like Darcy are asking you to be there for me.

Just call these parishes or the Diocesan CCD Office (Phone: 8379 1638) and offer be a relief Catechist.
