Diocesan Office for Safeguarding
Making a complaint or raising a concern
The Diocese of Broken Bay encourages all within our Church to join together in caring for our children and to notify the Diocese if you see any behaviours from within the Parish, School or CatholicCare community that may be causing harm to a child and it concerns you. If you or someone close to you has suffered abuse by a representative of the Catholic Church we encourage you to make contact with us. We will listen to you and your experience and discuss available options with you. The Diocese ensures that it complies with all its reporting requirements, including reporting to Police, the Ombudsman, the Office of the Children’s Guardian and Family and Community Services. To report concerns or complaints please contact a member from the Diocesan Safeguarding and Child Protection team.
In Australia, pursuant to the protocols of the document Towards Healing, there is a National Committee for Professional Standards
established by the Catholic bishops and leaders of religious institutes to oversee the development of policy, principles and
procedures in responding to Church-related abuse complaints.
Each State has a Director of Professional Standards to advise and assist in the matter concerning professional standards and the role of the NSW/ACT Professional Standards Office is to implement the principles and procedures as outlined in Towards Healing in responding to complaints of abuse against personnel of the Catholic Church.
To make a complaint contact the NSW/ACT Professional Standards Office please phone the toll-free complaints line on 1300 36 99 77
