Project Compassion Appeal 2024

Aspire not to have more, but to be more.
St Oscar Romero

This lent, join millions of Australians working to end poverty and injustice in our world.

The season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, which also marks the beginning of the annual Project Compassion Appeal by Caritas Australia. Donations to Project Compassion allow Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, to work with local communities around the world to alleviate poverty, hunger, oppression and injustice.

Twenty-two-year-old Jamila, is a single mother, living in the world’s largest refugee camp in Bangladesh. A Rohingya woman, she fled armed conflict in Myanmar’s Rakhine State to save herself, her elderly mother and eight-month-old baby daughter. With the support of Caritas Australia, and through Caritas Bangladesh, Jamila has been able to access emergency food, shelter, counselling, and vocational training that will help to support her family. We pray for all refugees like Jamila who are forced to flee their homeland. May we, as a global family, respond generously to their needs and assist in developing a safe and secure future for all.
