In two sessions on Friday, 13 December 2019, St Mary’s Cathedral will celebrate Christmas with carols and an overwhelming feeling of joy for the annual and much anticipated A Choral Christmas Celebration concert. Year after year, sell-out crowds have been delighted by this traditional Christmas experience which sees the world famous St Mary’s Cathedral Choir and guest readers offer glorious music and verse sure to fill every heart with Christmas cheer. From Once in Royal David’s City to excerpts of Handel’s Messiah, there will be music to celebrate Christmas for the young and the young at heart.
The concert, accompanied by the Sinfonia Australis orchestra, will feature music by J S Bach, Handel, Bruckner, and others. Public figures will read seasonal texts, both sacred and secular, and at the 7pm performance only, the Archbishop of Sydney will give a Christmas reflection.
A highlight for many of the audience will be the opportunity to join in with the choir and orchestra singing such favourite carols as O Come, all ye faithful, Hark the herald angels sing, Once in royal David’s city, and more.
