Parish Pastoral Council

Role of the Council

Our Pastoral Council’s role is to promote the Church’s mission to live and communicate the love and values of Christ in the World around us.

Our Pastoral Council shares in the responsibility for the ongoing life and development of our parish community, working together with parishioners to provide support for their efforts to live as followers of Christ.

As disciples we will:

  • Provide support for our parishioners as they choose to live as disciples of Jesus Christ
  • Listen and respond to the hopes, ideas, needs and concerns of parishioners
  • Encourage and support the continuing good work of existing groups within our parish
  • Set short-term and long-term pastoral goals for our parish community within the framework of Diocesan priorities
  • Provide support for our Parish Priest, working collaboratively with him and with each other
  • Share in the co-responsibility of leading others to live as followers of Jesus and to evangelise our local neighbourhood

Our Council will promote the Mission as we:

  • Foster authentic personal relationships so that all people encounter Jesus and experience conversion through their involvement in the parish and outside the parish
  • Provide opportunities for our parishioners to discern their charisms and God-given vocation
  • Sustain a culture of discipleship, nurturing and sustaining the work of conversion in individuals
  • Encourage our parishioners to commit their entire life to Jesus and to live that commitment daily
  • Transmit faith through pre-evangelisation, initial proclamation and then catechesis in a systemic way
  • Provide formation for individuals to take part in parish ministries and transform the secular world
  • Set intentional realistic and achievable short-term and long-term pastoral goals for the community within the framework of the Diocesan Vision ie: pastoral planning

Responsibilities

In a spirit of prayerful discernment each member of the Parish Pastoral Council will:
