Infant Baptism Program Overview
2019-2020
The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated in our parish during the celebration of Mass. Baptism is the first Sacrament in the Order of Christian Initiation, Confirmation and Eucharist being the other two. It is the Parish Community who welcomes your child for Baptism and so there is a responsibility of the Parish and Parents to see that the gift of Eternal Life is nourished.
In our Parish, the Sacrament of Baptism for children 6 years and younger is celebrated in the following way:
- A talk with one of the Clergy will be made in consultation with you.
- The anointing, naming and preparation of the candidate at one of the Parish Masses as indicated in this brochure.
- The baptism of the candidate is held at one of the Parish Masses as indicated in this brochure..
You have requested to have your child baptised into the Catholic Community and we are grateful to you for taking this step in your child's life.
Please complete the form on this brochure and return it along with a copy of your child’s Birth Certificate to the Parish Office at your earliest convenience.
If you are not parishioners of The Lakes Catholic Parish, please contact your Parish Priest and obtain a letter of permission for the baptism to take place. The letter of permission is to be attached to the form.
Godparents are to be over sixteen, fully initiated (celebrated the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) and practicing their faith so as to be a good support for parents and a good role model for your child.
