Sacramental Program

This article relates to the Sacraments of Confirmation, First Reconciliation and Fist Eucharist.  Please see separate menu items for the Sacraments of Baptism, Marriage and Anointing of the Sick.

The sacramental preparation program in our parish, and indeed throughout the Diocese of Broken Bay, is a parish based and family centred process. It is structured in a way for parents and their child to work through the booklets together as part of a parish sacramental group under the guidance of a group leader, and to continue the discussion and exercises at home. Both parish and family play an important role in journeying with the children towards full initiation into the Church.

The order of reception of the Sacraments in the Diocese of Broken Bay is Baptism, Confirmation, First Reconciliation and then First Eucharist. Children are usually prepared for the sacrament of Confirmation in Year 3 and the sacrament of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist in Year 4.

At least one parent or legal guardian is required to attend the Parent Information Session. Children are not required to attend this session.

You and your child are required to attend four preparation sessions of the program. These preparation sessions are facilitated by one of the parents in your small group. The facilitator works through the resources and materials for all the parents and the children in the group so that your child is adequately prepared to receive the sacraments.

Reflection afternoons are held for the children during the preparation of Confirmation and First Eucharist. The children also take part in rehearsals prior to receiving the sacraments of Confirmation, First Reconciliation and First Eucharist.

A registration fee for the sacraments of Confirmation, First Reconciliation and First Eucharist is required to help cover the cost of all the materials. If you have difficulty in paying this fee or if there are any extenuating circumstances regarding times and dates, please make an appointment to see Father Richard.
