Marriage

Pope Paul VI wrote

“By it [the Sacrament of Matrimony] husband and wife are strengthened and…consecrated for the faithful accomplishment of their proper duties, for the carrying out of their proper vocation even to perfection, and the Christian witness which is proper to them before the whole world” (Humanae Vitae, n. 25).

Like the other six sacraments of the Church, marriage is a sign or symbol which reveals the Lord Jesus and through which his divine life and love are communicated.

The sacrament of Christian marriage involves the couple’s entire life as they journey together through the ups and downs of marriage and become more able to give to and receive from each other. Their life becomes sacramental to the extent that the couple cooperates with God’s action in their life and sees themselves as living “in Christ” and Christ living and acting in their relationship, attitudes and actions.

Couples who are considering holding their wedding ceremony at St Patrick’s Catholic Church should first contact the Parish Office (4325 1042) to ensure that the church is available on the day they have chosen.

Booking your Wedding at St Patrick's Parish

Following the booking, the couple will be asked to complete and sign a booking sheet, and lodgement of that, together with the appropriate deposit at the Parish Office, confirms the booking.

The civil requirement is that a couple should prepare for their wedding by meeting the celebrant and completing all documentation no later than four weeks prior to the wedding. For most couples, this process commences approximately 4-5 months prior to the wedding, whilst a Marriage Education course may be completed at any point in time prior to the wedding.

We at St Patrick’s try to make this component of your planning and hopes for your day to be as uncomplicated as possible and we make every endeavour to assist you along the way.

Below you will find St Patrick’s marriage information sheet which should answer most of your questions, including costs, for you to peruse and consider. Please remember to contact the Parish Office should you have any questions about this form, or to book if it has helped you to decide to hold your wedding at St Patrick’s.
