Walk With Us as Pilgrims of Hope
The Jubilee Year is a once-in-a-generation moment of grace. By joining this pilgrimage, you not only step into the tradition of the Church but also open yourself to the joy, forgiveness, and renewal Christ longs to give.
We look forward to walking this sacred journey with you.
About the Jubilee Year
Every 25 years the Catholic Church proclaims a Jubilee (or Holy Year), a sacred time of renewal, forgiveness, and hope. The tradition stretches back to 1300 and echoes the Hebrew practice of celebrating freedom, debt forgiveness, and restoration every 50 years. The 2025 Jubilee Year, declared by Pope Francis, carries the theme “Pilgrims of Hope.” It is a call for all the faithful to walk together in prayer, conversion of heart, and renewed discipleship. Pope Francis said:
“We must fan the flame of hope that has been given us and help everyone to gain new strength and certainty by looking to the future with an open spirit, a trusting heart and far-sighted vision.”
The Jubilee begins on 24 December 2024 with the Opening of the Holy Door at St Peter’s Basilica in Rome and concludes on 6 January 2026 with the Closing of the Holy Door on the Feast of the Epiphany.
Why Pilgrimage?
Pilgrimage is a defining practice of the Jubilee Year. From the earliest days of the Church, Christians have set out on holy journeys as a way to express faith, seek God’s grace, and deepen their spiritual lives. The Jubilee also offers the faithful the opportunity to receive a plenary indulgence. This is the full remission of sins already forgiven through Confession. To obtain the indulgence, the faithful are asked to:
- Make the pilgrimage with devotion, crossing through the designated Holy Door or visiting a Jubilee Shrine.
- Receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. (Reconciliation may be provided, but ensure reconciliation taken before taking pilgrimage to ensure full favours of plenary indulgence can be gained)
- Participate in the Eucharist and pray for the intentions of the Holy Father.
- Pray the Creed and the Our Father.
This grace is not only for us but can also be offered for the souls of the faithful departed.
