The Sacrament of Confirmation in Holy Cross Parish 2024

Bishop Anthony Randazzo will confer the Sacrament of Confirmation on the children of Holy Cross Parish, Kincumber, at 11.00am Mass on Sunday, 18th August, 2024.

Many years ago the Celebrant baptising your child reminded you of your duty to raise your child according to God’s commandments of love as taught by Christ: to love God and to love their neighbour. You were asked whether you clearly understood what you were undertaking.

We are where we are today because of the decision you made at that time when you asked the Church for Baptism for your precious child.

The Sacrament of Confirmation is a powerful moment when our young children affirm those baptismal promises and receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit. It is a time of growth, courage and spiritual empowerment as they embrace their role as active members of our faith community. As a parish, we are honoured to walk alongside them on this journey.

All children in Year 3 and above are eligible to prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation if they have been baptised into God’s family.

If you would like your child to be confirmed this year but they have not as yet been baptised, please contact us as soon as possible at Sacraments.kincumberparish@bbcatholic.org.au

The information session for parents will be held on Wednesday, 19th June, in Holy Spirit Church at 6.30pm. It is not necessary for your child to attend this session, but one parent of each child must attend.

Confirmation classes to prepare for this Sacrament will be held on Sunday afternoons at 4pm in the Parish Hall. They will begin on Sunday 21st July, will continue on Sunday 28th July, 4th August and Sunday 11th August. Please note that all classes are held within Term 3.

In order to adequately prepare for this Sacrament, it is crucial that one parent attend the classes each week with your child.

There is a one-off compulsory practice session for a parent of each child, the child to be confirmed and also each child’s sponsor will be held on Wednesday evening, 14th August, at 6.30pm.

Please take note of these dates and of the significant commitment we are asking of you to undertake in order to prepare your child, i.e. attendance at classes, attendance at 5pm Parish Mass following the classes (where your child will be invited each week to be part of the liturgy), the practice session, and the Confirmation Mass itself.

Such importance do we place on adequate preparation of your child, we would ask that if you are in any way or for any reason unable to commit to this preparation timetable, that you consider postponing your child’s Confirmation until next year.

It really is a case of thorough and unwavering commitment on your part.

On Monday 24th June the online link to Confirmation registration will be available on this page, registration will close on Friday 13th July. No registrations will be accepted after the commencement of classes.

Further Confirmation information:-

Sponsors

Your child will have one sponsor for Confirmation. The Sponsor brings the candidate (your child) to receive the Sacrament by presenting him/her to the Bishop for anointing. When choosing a Sponsor please take the following points into consideration:

1. That the sponsor has the maturity to fulfill their function. A sponsor must be 16 years of age.

2. That the sponsor be a baptised member of the Catholic Church who has made their own Sacraments of Initiation following baptism, i.e. Confirmation and Eucharist.

3. There may be one sponsor only for each candidate. You may consider asking one of your child’s Godparents. Please note that parents may not be sponsors for their child.

Confirmation Name

The Confirmation candidates will need to choose a Confirmation name. They may choose the name given to them at their Baptism by their parents if this was the name of a Saint, or they may choose a new name for Confirmation. When choosing a Saints’ name for confirmation we encourage you to spend some time researching a particular Saint.
