First Holy Communion

First Holy Communion 1Children's First Holy Communion

Children's First Holy Communion
First Communion will be celebrated in June 2023.

The Eucharist is the 'source and summit' of our lives as Catholics. It is the climax of our initiation as Christians. Each time we celebrate the Eucharist we affirm the faith that we professed in Baptism and Confirmation.

The sacrament of Holy Communion brings to completion the Christian process of initiation. In this sacrament, we remember what Jesus did for us in his life, death, and resurrection. We remember particularly the Last Supper, that final meal Jesus shared with his disciples. At that meal, Jesus gave us the Eucharist so that we could remember him in a special way. When we receive Communion, we believe that we receive the person of Jesus into our very beings. We become one with him and we become one with each other. As a community, we become 'the body of Christ'.

First Holy Communion is celebrated after the completion of both Confirmation and Reconciliation, usually in Year 4, or at least when children are nine years or older.  First Holy Communion completes a person's journey into full communion with the Catholic Church and is the high point of our faith. This sacrament will be celebrated after Reconciliation in 2022.
