Our Lady of Dolurs Parish is supporting a community sponsorship group to bring a refugee family in desperate need of resettlement to come and work in Australia under the Community Refugee Sponsorship programme initiated by the Australian government. The family will live in Chatswood, attend school and English language programmes here while learning our customs and ways and how to build a successful life here. Sponsors need to fundraise to pay the initial costs for the family while they get settled, to provide suitable accommodation and furniture and meet their immediate needs for food, clothing, medicines etc.
Each year our parish has held a Feast for Freedom to raise money for refugee organisations and this year on June 21 we are raising it for our own refugee family. We are calling it the Hope for Freedom Feast in recognition of the Jubilee Year’s theme of Hope and the prophet Jeremiah’s words about the Jubilee: I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your good and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. Jeremiah 29:11.
Please support us by attending. Details on how to book are in the flyer below.
