Most Rev Anthony Randazzo

4th Bishop of Broken Bay

On 7 October 2019, Pope Francis appointed Most Rev Anthony Randazzo DD JCL as the fourth Bishop of Broken Bay.

Born in Sydney, Bishop Anthony grew up in southeast Queensland. He pursued his studies at the Pius XII Provincial Seminary and the University of Queensland before being ordained a priest for the Brisbane Archdiocese in 1991.

Following parish and diocesan responsibilities in Brisbane, Bishop Anthony moved to Rome to further his education. He gained qualifications in canon law from the prestigious Pontifical Gregorian University and subsequently served for five years at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

Upon his return to Australia, Bishop Anthony served as the rector of the Holy Spirit Seminary, which trains priests for the five dioceses of Queensland. Recognising his leadership and dedication, he was appointed as an auxiliary bishop for Sydney in 2016.

“I have a great sense of hopeful expectation as I anticipate how we will live the life of faith and discipleship together and how we will give witness to the Good News of Jesus Christ in our world.”

– Bishop Randazzo

Bishop Anthony has observed the Diocese of Broken Bay to be "a vibrant, animated, and Spirit-filled Church". He expressed his gratitude to God and Pope Francis for the trust placed in him to lead, guide, and accompany the people of God in Broken Bay.

“With the priests and deacons by my side, I pray that we will serve Christ's faithful with charity, mercy, and joy. I look forward to meeting the people of the diocese from all walks of life, age, and culture.”

Bishop Anthony was formally installed as the fourth Bishop of Broken Bay on Monday 4 November 2019, the Feast Day of St Charles Borromeo, at a beautiful Liturgical Reception and Solemn Mass held at The Light of Christ Centre, Waitara.
