Role & Contact

Very Rev Dr David Ranson

Vicar General of the Diocese of Broken Bay

Very Rev Dr David Ranson is the Vicar General of the Diocese of Broken Bay. Fr David served as Vicar General under the leadership of the third bishop of Broken Bay, Most Rev Peter A Comensoli.

He was then elected Diocesan Administrator by the College of Consultors in August 2018 following Bishop Peter's appointment by the Holy Father to the Archdiocese of Melbourne.

As Diocesan Administrator, Fr David led the Diocese of Broken Bay for 16 months during the period between bishops. While Canon Law states that there can be no innovation during such a period ("sede vacante"), the many initiatives of Bishop Comensoli were progressed through to their conclusion, ensuring the stability and growth of the local Church.

During this interim period, many functions and ministries continued as normal. Notably, under Fr David's guidance and following Bishop Peter's former vision, the Korean Catholic Chaplaincy and the Filipino Catholic Chaplaincy were both successfully established in Broken Bay, enriching the cultural and spiritual fabric of the Diocese.

With the installation of Most Rev Anthony Randazzo as the fourth Bishop of Broken Bay on 4 November 2019, Fr David resumed his pivotal role as Vicar General, where he continues to support the Bishop in the governance and pastoral care of the Diocese.
