Sacred Heart Catholic Church
A Parish community event for pets and their owners in celebration of the Feast of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. This tradition honours Saint Francis who believed in the intrinsic value of all of God's creatures and called animals his brothers and sisters. The blessing fosters a sense of appreciation for animal life and the environment.
Mass will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic church followed by the Blessing of good health and well-being outside the church after Mass. The blessing will be followed by refreshments in the forecourt.
All animals must be leashed or in an enclosed container. If your animal is unable to make it, you can bring a photo of them.
St Francis of Assisi was born in the 12th century, lived in Italy, and founded the men’s Order of Friars Minor, the women’s Order of St Clare, and the Third Order of Saint Francis for men and women not able to live the lives of itinerant preachers. Francis is one of the most venerated religious figures in history.
He is remembered for his generosity to the poor, his willingness to minister to the lepers, and for his love for animals and nature. He is the patron saint of animals and the environment.
