The Light is On Lenten Program
The Church must be a place of mercy freely given, where everyone can feel welcomed, loved, forgiven and encouraged to live the good life of the Gospel.
Pope Francis, (The Joy of the Gospel, 114)
Lent is the perfect time to renew and restore our relationship with Jesus and with the Church as we prepare to celebrate Easter.
Jesus revealed to his disciples the deepest meaning of his mission when he told them of his passion, death and resurrection, in fulfilment of the Father’s will. He then called the disciples to share in this mission for the salvation of the world.
Pope Francis has said that Lent is a time for believing, for welcoming God into our lives and allowing him to “make his dwelling” among us (John 14:23). Pope Francis reminds us that the Lenten practices of fasting, alms giving and prayer make it possible for us to live lives of sincere faith, living hope and effective charity, sharing with Jesus in the salvation of the world.
Speaking of Lent, Pope Leo has invited us to take up a practical and unappreciated form of abstinence.
I invite you to a very practical and frequently unappreciated form of abstinence: that of refraining from words that offend and hurt our neighbour. Let us begin by disarming our language, avoiding harsh words and rash judgement, refraining from slander and speaking ill of those who are not present and cannot defend themselves. Instead, let us strive to measure our words and cultivate kindness and respect in our families, among our friends, at work, on social media, in political debates, in the media and in Christian communities. In this way, words of hatred will give way to words of hope and peace.
Lenten Adoration
Join in for a peaceful hour of Eucharistic Adoration every Sunday evening during Lent. From 5pm to 6pm every Sunday evening before Mass at Sacred Heart Church Pymble from 22 February until 22 March 2026. During this hour, the Gospel of the day will be read, followed by prompts for personal reflection and prayer. This hour is a period for private reflection without discussion or sharing.
