Help support missionaries in their work around the world

On 18-19 October 2025, the Parish will hold the annual Catholic Mission Appeal. Catholic Mission is the international mission agency of the Catholic Church in Australia. Catholic Mission operates in over 160 countries to support initiatives in 1,100 dioceses, including remote Catholics, to give people the opportunity for a full, enriched life — physically and spiritually — regardless of race, stigma, religion or gender.

Catholic Mission and the broader Catholic community come together to celebrate the World Mission Appeal, guided by the theme “Missionaries of Hope Among All Peoples”.

Together, we have the power to create change and build a more just world for people everywhere. By supporting missionaries in their work, we can create life-changing opportunities for countless children, families, and communities worldwide. Join us in making a difference.

We travel to Zambia, where missionaries like Sr Jane and midwife Kayula embody this mission.

Sr Jane supports women like Sharon, whose family face worsening drought and painful choices – selling crops for survival or feeding their children.

Midwife Kayula meets expectant mothers who endure dangerous journeys for medical care, only to face overcrowding, limited resources, and the heartbreaking risk of losing their baby or their own life.

Sr Jane is providing support in her rural community.

In the rural town of Mpika, Zambia, Sharon and her husband Victor grow maize to feed their four children. But the ongoing effects of the drought forces them into an impossible choice: sell their harvest to afford daily essentials or keep it and go without the basic needs.

“Sometimes tears run out of my eyes - my youngest child will just cry if food is not cooked.” - Sharon.

When extreme weather like drought hits, its farming families who feel it first — and hardest. And for women, it can be especially tough. Most rely on farm work to get by, so when crops fail, they are the ones left trying to stretch what little they have to feed their families, all while carrying the heartache that comes with not knowing what tomorrow will bring.

Safe childbirth for mothers like Eveline is a struggle. Midwife Kayula is there to provide support.

In some of the most remote places in the world, accessing healthcare is a difficult and dangerous journey. From rough roads to vast distances, poor weather to safety concerns, people in remote communities face immense difficulty to access the care they need. The remoteness is a trying environment for clinics to have adequate resources and facilities.

For expectant mothers, these difficulties can mean the difference between life and death.

The local clinic is in need of upgrades to its facilities and medical equipment, from vehicles to aid with transport, to tools such as life-saving resuscitators and incubators to help nurture a newborn. Without a dedicated mother’s shelter, pregnant women and new mothers have no choice but to share facilities with other people with critical illnesses.

Every mother deserves the reassurance of giving birth with the appropriate facilities and equipment. The dignity of a safe and comfortable birth. Your support can help reassure mothers can give birth safely.
