Christians: Remember Your Greatness

Being Human in the Age of AI with Rebekah Griffin

6 to 8pm, Wednesday, 17 June 2026
Caroline Chisholm Centre
Building 2, 423 Pennant Hills Road, Pennant Hills

Rebekah Griffin will break open two documents that the Church has released on AI, Antiqua et Nova (2025) and Quo Vadis, Humanitas (2026). This presentation will explore what it means to be human, in relationship with God, self, others, and the environment. It will explore how AI mimics aspects of this environment, including technical limitations.

In the 5th Century, Pope St Leo the Great once said in a Christmas Day homily "Remember, Christian, your greatness. You are part of the Body of Christ". Now in 2026, Pope Leo XIV has frequently posed the question "What does it mean to be a human in the age of Al?" More and more, Pope Leo's teaching is asking us to become involved in how Al is adopted and implemented in the home, workplace and school to ensure that Al upholds both the common good and the dignity of each particular human person, and that which is characteristically human is preserved.

Framed within the present, in "the age of Al", this presentation provides an accessible introduction to the rich teaching of the Church on:
  • What it means to be a human person;
  • How human life and intelligence is differentiated from what can be achieved by artificial intelligence;
  • How remembering who we are in relationship with each other and in relationship with God helps us to flourish.
