Salvatorian World Youth Day 2023 Information
1-6 August 2023
World Youth Day (WYD) is a worldwide encounter with the Pope celebrated every three years in a different country. The most recent WYD was celebrated in Panama City, Panama 22-27 January 2019 and the next World Youth Day will be held in Lisbon, Portugal in 2023.
WYD is open to all young people who want to take part in a festive encounter centred on Jesus Christ together with their peers. The event is an opportunity to personally experience the universality of the Catholic Church, and to share with the whole world the hope of many young people who are committing their lives to Christ and His Church. World Youth Day is a unique way to deepen your faith and grow closer to Christ, through prayer and the sacraments, together with hundreds of thousands of other young people who share your interests and ambitions.
World Youth Day an Introduction
Salvatorian Pilgrimage to World Youth Day
The Australian Salvatorians will attend the World Youth Day in Lisbon in 2023 with a 16 day pilgrimage to Rome, Lisbon and Fátima for an encounter with Christ and to build lasting relationships with other pilgrims.
Beginning in Italy, the pilgrimage will explore the roots of our faith in Rome, unearth the spiritual treasures of the Vatican and, as Salvatorians, gather around the tomb of the Salvatorian founder, Fr Francis Jordan. The pilgrimage will then join the youth of the world in Lisbon for the 16th International World Youth Day for a week of prayer, worship and celebration in the company of the Pope.
Following the World Youth Day Week, the pilgrimage will depart for a post World Youth Day Retreat in Fátima and spend the following days in rest, recreation and retreat to unwind and process the amazing days and experiences of the pilgrimage.
An associated information session will be held online via Zoom on Tuesday, 30 August 2022. The session is scheduled for 9:00pm NSW local time and will be hosted from Perth.
