Parish Groups

St Dominic’s Playgroup

Mondays from 9am to 11am (during term time)

Holy Name runs a playgroup Monday mornings for children from birth to school age and their parents/carers. Come along for a casual catch up with other adults while the children play with the extensive and ever changing toy collection in our beautiful surrounds.

We also have families from other areas of the community, there is always an interesting and diverse mix of people and we’d love to see you.

We meet in the Parish Sunroom and everyone is welcome!

Formation and Catechesis

Parish Catechists in the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine

Jesus says to His disciples, “Go out into all the world and preach the Good News.” A catechist has the joy of spreading this Good News to the Catholic children in the Primary Schools of Warrawee Public School, on the Pacific Highway, and Wahroonga Public
School (The Bush School) on Burns Road. Our catechists are trained and resourced to make this a meaningful experience for both children and catechists alike. This rewarding form of discipleship does not require an in-depth knowledge of Catholic doctrine as
resources are fully provided. The catechist brings a deep love of Jesus and love for children. It takes a little time to prepare and give your lesson once a week. It is also possible to attend classes once a week in a supportive role to our catechists.

Ku-ring—gai Christian Education Association
Our parish supports this local ecumenical initiative which provides a Religious Education teacher at our local State High School, Ku-Ring-Gai Creative Arts High School. The teacher is Mrs. Lisa Andrawes.

Parish Baptismal Preparation Programme
We invite those families who are presenting their children for baptism to be present at our Sunday 9.15am Mass on the last Sunday of the month for a welcome by the community and the First Anointing of Baptism. A preparatory session for parents follows the Mass at 10.30a.m. Co-ordinator: Mrs. Elizabeth Webster.

Children’s Sacramental Programme
This programme helps prepare members of our parish to receive the Sacraments of Confirmation, Reconciliation and Eucharist. It is facilitated by our Sacramental Programme Co-ordinator and draws assistance from parents of the children in the program
who act as session leaders for the weeks over which the programme is conducted. We prepare for Confirmation in August/September; Reconciliation in March/April; First Eucharist in May/June. Preparation sessions are conducted over three Saturdays from 4p.m. to 4.50p.m. and are held at Prouille School.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
The greatest sign of the Church’s life is the welcome of new members into its community. This programme, culminating in baptism during the Easter Vigil, welcomes new Catholics into our community through a structured process of induction and formation.

Heartbeat is a programme of small groups within the parish meeting to read prayerfully and reflect thoughtfully on the Gospel of the Sunday liturgy. It follows different series throughout the year, according to the liturgical seasons such as Lent or Advent.

Lay Dominican Association
Lay Dominicans are people, living and working in the secular world, while fully belonging to the Dominican Order. The Association meets once a month to pray together, study Dominican Spirituality, Sacred Scripture, and the documents of the Church. Any
Catholic from 18 years of age, committed to their Catholic faith, seeking to deepen their spirituality and to help spread the Word of God is welcome.

Growing in our Understanding of Catholic Faith
Since July 2013, Holy Name Parish has been in partnership with CRadio, an internet radio and podcasting service which provides free audio content to help inform, educate and inspire Catholics and non-Catholics in Australia and abroad on issues
of faith, morality and social responsibility. Podcasts available from the CRadio website are advertised weekly in our parish bulletin, and resources from CRadio are made available at each of our liturgical season through the year, and for our
sacramental preparation programme. For further information, contact Lloyd Gilbert:

Upper North Shore Adoration (UNSA)
This group, primarily for young adults, meets at Holy Name most often on the last Tuesday of the month at 7pm for an hour of Eucharistic Adoration, followed by Benediction and Catechesis. Contact Justin Elliott (0433 300 117) or Craig Joshua (0417 121 000).
