SACRAMENTAL PROGRAMMES 2026
The preparation and presentation of children for the sacraments of Confirmation, First Reconciliation, and First Eucharist are primarily the responsibility of their parents, who serve as the foremost educators of their children in the Catholic faith. Parents are supported in this role by the parish's Sacramental Programmes, which are designed to guide them in teaching their children about prayer, reflection, and living an active Catholic life.
In our parish, Confirmation will take place in Term 4. As our Diocese of Broken Bay celebrates its 40th anniversary, Bishop Anthony Randazzo will gather all parishes to celebrate this sacrament. Preparation will occur in our parish, with the ceremony at the Light of Christ Centre, Waitara, on Saturday 21 November 2026 at 3:00pm. Registration opens in Term 3, with details shared through your child’s school. The sacramental timeline is as follows:
- Year 3: Confirmation is celebrated in Term 4 (this year only). It is expected we return to Term 2 in 2027.
- Year 4: First Reconciliation takes place in Term 1, followed by First Eucharist in Term 3.
Variations from this timeline are to be expected in special circumstances, such as when a child is significantly older than the main group.
Attendance at all sessions, including both parent meetings and weekly classes, is essential to prepare for and celebrate the sacraments for the given year. Please make note of the session dates in your diary to ensure you don’t miss any important events.
CONFIRMATION - FOR YEAR 3 AND OLDER (Term 4)
The second of the Sacraments of Christian Initiation compliments and builds on Baptism, through the gift of the Holy Spirit sent by the Father and his son, Jesus our saviour.
Children must be Baptised in order to participate in this sacrament.
Parent Information Evening (compulsory) : TBA (Only one parent need attend).
Presentation Mass: Any mass over the weekend of TBA
Preparation Classes: Over 4 weeks prior to the ceremony in your nominated groups. These are held in the Parish Hall
Compulsory Practice: TBA
Ceremony: Saturday, 21 November 2026 at 3:00pm at the Light of Christ Centre in Waitara.
Reigstration will commence in Term 3
FIRST RECONCILIATION FOR YEAR 4 AND OLDER (Term 1)
Also known as Confession is the sacrament where we encounter the forgiving healing of Christ. Reconciliation provides support and direction in our catholic Faith journey ensuring that we remain in a state of grace.
Reconciliation is usually celebrated for the first time prior to receiving First Eucharist.
In order to participate in the Reconciliation Programme your child must be Baptised and Confirmed.
Parent Information Night : 20th February at 7.30pm
Presentation Mass: Any mass over the weekend 22nd/23rd February
Preparation Classes: Over 4 weeks prior to the ceremony in your nominated groups. These are held in the Parish Hall
Ceremony: 22nd March at 10am or 3.30pm in the Church

FIRST EUCHARIST - FOR YEAR 4 AND OLDER (Term 3)
First Eucharist or Holy Communion is the sacrament which completes Christian Initiation with the receiving of the Eucharistic Body and Blood of Christ. Thereafter we should receive the Eucharist frequently for the support and growth of our Faith.
To be eligible to celebrate First Eucharist, a child must have celebrated baptism, Confirmation and Reconciliation.
Parent Information Evening (compulsory) : Thursday 13th August 2026 at 7.30pm in the Church hall. (Only one parent need attend).
Presentation Mass: Any mass over the weekend of 15th/16th August 2026
Preparation Classes: Held over 4 weeks in August/September in your nominated groups at the Parish Hall. There will be no classes for weekend on 5/6 September (Father’s Day weekend), creating a gap week—so the program spans 5 weeks in total leading up to the Eucharistic Sacrament. There will be a practice for the sacrament on Thursday 17, September 2026.
Ceremony: 19th September at 6pm or 20th September at 10am in the Church
Registration will commence in Term 2
Photographs will be taken at these Sacraments. These images may be displayed from time to time around the church and published in Parish publications, on its website and its social media sites. Images from this event may also be used for marketing and communications purposes.
