You are here:HomeNewsLatest News The Bishop of Broken Bay, Most Rev Anthony Randazzo is very pleased to announce the Diocese’s delegates to the forthcoming Australian Plenary Council opening with its First Session, 4-11 October 2020 in Adelaide. Those canonically mandated to be present at the Plenary Council are Bishop Randazzo and Vicar General, Fr David Ranson. Joining them will be two delegates appointed from the Diocese: Ms Alison Newell and Mr Dharmaraj (Raj) Rajasingam. “Both Alison and Raj bring exceptional experience of the Diocese to their appointment,” said Bishop Randazzo, “as well as proven demonstration of leadership in faith.” He congratulates Ms Newell and Mr Rajasingam on their appointment and looks forward to collaborating with them in the discussion at the Plenary Council for the benefit of the People of God in both the Diocese of Broken Bay and the Church in Australia. Ms Alison Newell hails from the Parish of Toukley-Lake Munmorah in the far north of the Diocese of Broken Bay. Along with her long-standing role as Diocesan Director of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, Alison has enjoyed national involvement in the conduct of Special Religious Education in which she has gained recognised leadership. She has served on numerous diocesan committees including the former Diocesan Pastoral Council and the Diocesan Vocations Committee. Mr Raj Rajasingam is an active parishioner of the Cathedral Parish of Hornsby at which he exercises a range of ministries. He serves as the National Missions Director of Couples for Christ Australia. He has considerable national and international experience in programmes of Evangelisation and works extensively in lay formation throughout Australia. He also brings his rich multicultural experience to bear on the matters before the consideration of the Plenary Council. “I am confident that our diocesan delegates will serve the people of our Diocese well at the assemblies of the Plenary Council,” says Bishop Randazzo. “Their understanding of the life of the Church in Australia is not only informed by their deep affection and familiarity with our own Diocese but also by their national and international perspectives.” Bishop Randazzo records his deep appreciation to the many people in the Diocese recommended for nomination as diocesan delegates. He expresses his gratitude to their generosity and keen interest and is confident of their ongoing engagement in the progress of the Plenary Council. Bishop Randazzo also records his recognition of the contribution of those from the Diocese who have contributed to the work of the various Discernment and Writing Groups in preparation for the Plenary Council: Ms Alison Newell, member of the group, Missionary and Evangelising; Mr Bernard Cumming, Member of the group, Humble, Healing and Merciful; Mr John Honner, member of the group, Inclusive, Participator and Synodal; and Deacon Adrian Gomez, member of the group, Joyful, Hope-filled, Servant Community. “The contribution of such exceptional individuals to the work of the Plenary Council is a key demonstration of the vitality of our Diocese,” said Bishop Randazzo.
