Five seminarians will begin formation for the priesthood for the Diocese of Broken Bay this year, with three of them beginning their journey at the Seminary of the Good Shepherd over the weekend.

Nicholas Gomez (Cathedral Parish), Joseph Nicholls (Gosford Parish), and Bryce Gonlin (Chatswood Parish), were joined by their families on Sunday for the opening Mass at the Seminary, beginning their Propaedeutic Year. Lucas Lopez Rizo, the fourth new seminarian for the Diocese, will also begin formation for the priesthood this year while remaining resident at Joseph House. A fifth student, Tam Nguyen will join the Diocese from Vietnam and will begin his pastoral placement in the Diocese upon his arrival.

The opening Mass was celebrated in the Seminary Chapel in Homebush by Bishop Tony Percy, Auxiliary Bishop of Sydney. Nicholas, Joseph and Bryce were among 13 new men beginning their journey at the Seminary this year.

The new seminarians takes the number of men in formation for the priesthood in Broken Bay to 11.

Bishop Anthony Randazzo announced Deacons Shayne D’Cunha, Tân Nguyen, and Huy Tran will be ordained to the priesthood on Wednesday, 29 April 2026 at Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral, Waitara.

On Saturday 14 March 2026, at the Vigil Mass at Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral, Waitara, Bishop Anthony will institute Victor Atuhura to the Ministries of Lector and Acolyte and admit Matthew French to Candidacy for Sacred Orders. Alfred Soliman is continuing his formation, currently on pastoral placement at the Parish of Manly Freshwater.

The current wellspring of vocations within the Diocese is the fruit of many years of prayer and culture building.

A number of men in the Diocese are currently in active discernment for the priesthood, and Joseph House, the house of discernment for young men within the Diocese, is currently full.
