Batting on in another test

Last September, the Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care Team and Pastoral Care Volunteers from the surrounding parishes gathered at their offices at Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) to bid farewell to Frs Baby Thomas and Tomy Kuruvelil.

Louise Smith spoke for those gathered and many others who could not attend expressing deep appreciation for the priestly ministry they brought to the hospital community. Louise spoke of their sacramental ministry and their individual compassion and care for patients and their families, volunteers and staff. They have contributed generously and collaboratively to the ecumenical spirit present in the Chaplaincy Department. She said their smiling faces and welcoming ways will be missed along with their sense of humour and love of cricket. Both priests are big fans of international cricket and have the current score always ready for whoever wants to check in. They are pictured here in their ‘gift’ Australian caps, although it is not certain how often the caps were seen over the summer season!

Fr Baby and Tomy

Fr Baby has taken up duties at Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral at Waitara as Assistant Priest and Fr Tomy remains at the Catholic Parish of Lower North Shore as Assistant Priest.

Louise concluded with the prose selected for the occasion:

Celebrate You by John O’Donohue, Priests Sue Louise
“Benedictus” BANTAM PRESS 2007

‘You are worth celebrating
You are worth everything.
You are unique.
In all the whole world there is only one you.

There is only one person, with your talents,
Your experience, your gift.
NO ONE CAN TAKE YOUR PLACE.

God created only one you,
precious in His sight,
You have immense potential
to love and to care.
So, Love yourself and
nourish the life within you.
Celebrate now.
Begin now. Start anew.’
