Bishop Anthony celebrates three years as Bishop of Broken Bay

Most Rev Anthony Randazzo DD JCL has celebrated three years as shepherd of the Diocese of Broken Bay, on the feast of Saint Charles Borromeo, the patron saint of Bishops.

November 4 marks the third anniversary of his Episcopal installation as the fourth Bishop of Broken Bay. At the end of the month, he will celebrate 31 years of priestly ministry.

Despite a difficult start to episcopal life within the Diocese, with two years of COVID-19 lockdowns, he has already made an indelible mark on the life of the Broken Bay community.

He ordained Father Sam French, Father Aldrin Valdehueza and Father Roger Delmonte at the end of 2021, breaking a dry spell of priestly ordinations for the Diocese. It was also the Diocese’ first multiple ordination ceremony in its 35-year history.

He initiated the Pastoral Discernment Central Coast project, aimed at renewing the life of the Church in the region, which the rest of the Diocese will be able to take lessons from.

He spearheaded the creation of the Bishop’s Breakfast, an initiative aimed at bringing together a diverse range of stakeholders in a bid to encourage greater collaboration between Church, government, business and community.

More recently, he installed two first class relics of Saint John Paul II at St Patrick’s Catholic Church, East Gosford, and officially opened the first shrine of the great pope in Australia, giving the Diocese a unique point of pilgrimage for both the local and visiting faithful.

Following 25 years of priestly ministry, Bishop Randazzo was appointed as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Sydney and installed on 24 August 2016 at St Mary’s Cathedral. He served in this role until he was appointed Bishop of Broken Bay by Pope Francis in 2019.

Bishop Randazzo will celebrate Mass at Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral, Waitara on Friday, 4 November 2022 at 5:30pm to commemorate the third anniversary of his installation.
