Message for ANZAC Day

On Monday, Australia and New Zealand will mark a day of remembrance, dedicated to the memory of the men, women and families who have dedicated their lives to serving their country both in wartime and in peace.

The day marks the anniversary of the landings at Gallipoli in World War I, considered the beginning of Australian and New Zealand national consciousness, and broadly commemorates all those service personnel who have served and died in war, conflict or peacekeeping.

ANZAC Day recognises the high ideals of fellowship, justice and peace that were fought for during the Gallipoli campaign and many others after too.

The theme of sacrifice, just a week after commemorating the life, death and resurrection of Our Lord, is already prevalent in the minds of many at this time.

Through His death on the Cross, Christ sacrificed Himself for us, so that we would not perish, but have eternal life through Him.

Imitating His sacrifice, our service men and women have followed in the path of Christ, making the ultimate sacrifice in all theatres of conflict and laying down their lives in service to the country, in service of peace and in service of others.

An ANZAC Mass of Remembrance will be celebrated by Bishop Anthony Randazzo at Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral, Waitara at 10:30am.

Lest we forget.
