The Light Is On

Light is on button 2

Welcome! Our doors are open and the light is on.

The Light is On is an initiative where Catholic churches are open for quiet prayer and Reconciliation on certain evenings during Lent.  In Lent 2019, parishes of the Diocese of Broken Bay will be open during Lent for prayer and Reconciliation on:

Fridays 7pm - 8pm on 8, 15, 22, 29 March and 5, 12 April 2019

Experience God's light and peace in your life this Lent.

Lent is the season where we prepare ourselves to renew and restore our relationship with Jesus and the Church as we prepare to celebrate Easter. You are warmly invited to join in prayer at our parishes during Lent. When ready, you may consider participating in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. To help prepare yourself to receive the joy of God’s mercy, explore information here to help you feel more confident and ready, including a Guide to Reconciliation.

For many of us the Sacrament of Reconciliation can be scary and even embarrassing. We may be too nervous or consider ourselves unforgiveable. Yet with confidence Pope Francis reminds us:

"How many times in my pastoral ministry have I heard it said, ‘Father, I have many sins,’ and I have always pleaded, ‘Don’t be afraid; go to him; he is waiting for you; he will take care of everything.’ We hear many offers from the world around us, but let us take up God’s offer instead: his is a caress of love."
 - Pope Francis, Homily, Basilica of St. John Lateran, Divine Mercy Sunday, April 7, 2013.

The Light is On is at churches every Friday evening during Lent.
