Churches closed in Broken Bay

26 June 2021

A Message from Bishop Anthony Randazzo

The current COVID outbreak in Sydney has intensified significantly overnight which has lead the Premier to place a stay at home order for the Greater Sydney Area, including Central Coast, Blue Mountains and Wollongong, effective from 6pm Saturday 26 June 2021, through to at least 11:59pm 9 July 2021.

In light of this, and in order that our people be kept as safe as possible, I ask that all our churches in Diocese of Broken Bay be closed from 6pm this evening, 26 June 2021. Since this is at my request, the obligation for the faithful to participate in Sunday Mass (can.1247) is lifted for the people of Broken Bay for the duration of this stay at home order.  I will review the situation as we approach 9 July or if the stay at home order is lifted earlier.  I would encourage you to resume livestreaming the Mass where possible.  This service continues to be made available from our Cathedral on Sunday mornings at 9.30AM as well as weekdays at 7AM.

I am particularly mindful of the disruption in people’s lives and plans that this development will occasion, cause distress once again for our people. I hold you all in my prayer, asking that the Lord may keep us all safe during this time.
