Adult Education

I. 'Why am I still a Catholic?'

Why am I still a Catholic ? is a question that perhaps many of us ask ourselves at this time when we are confronted with the sins and crimes of (a minority of) members of our Church.

This year, as part of our parish adult faith education programme, we will be inviting a number of guest speakers to address this topic from their own experience of faith.

*   For the first session we  asked Fr Frank Brennan SJ to address this topic in his homily at our monthly Youth and Family Mass in March .
*  The second session we have so far organised will be led by Fr Richard Leonard SJ on Wednesday 12th June from 7:30 – 9:00pm in the Shirley Wallace Parish Centre.
*   Keep checking here for details of further sessions as they are organised. We should soon be able to advise the date for a third session – to be led by Carmelite Friar, now Bishop of Lismore, Greg Homeming.

II. Parish Retreats at the Cistercian Abbey at Tarrawarra  and at the Benedictine Abbey at Jamberoo

In 2019 we will be offering parish retreats at both these monasteries:

A. Tarrawarra Abbey:

Arriving mid-afternoon Tuesday 30th April; retreat proper running from Wednesday 1st – Sunday 5th May; departing after breakfast Monday 6th May.

B. Jamberoo Abbey:

Arrive Monday afternoon 23rd September; depart Friday morning 27th September (the week before school holidays begin)

You are welcome to book for both the Tarrawarra and Jamberoo retreats.

At Tarrawarra the abbey sets no fixed fee but requests a donation. An amount of $350-$400 would be appropriate for the week.

At Jamberoo single rooms have a tariff of $60 per night and the double bed rooms are $130 per night for a couple and $100 per night for a single.

Please consider taking part in this wonderful parish opportunity to take some time out and nurture the Spirit within us. Please contact Fr Colin if you are interested.

III. Scripture Study

Fr Colin leads a monthly Scripture Study Group with an aim to study and draw nourishment from the Scriptures.

The gatherings are on the second Wednesday of each month (except January and August) from 10am-11am in 'The Library' in the Shirley Wallace Parish Centre on the first floor of Holy Family Church at Lindfield (lift access in the side foyer of the church).

All welcome.

IV. Parish Library

The Parish Library is located on the first floor of Holy Family Church in the Shirley Wallace Parish Centre. To borrow a book simply write your name and the date plus the name of the book in the ‘Borrowers’ Book provided. Please cross your name out when you return the book (one month loans please – maximum of 2 books at a time).

V. Snippets of Faith

A collection of short articles by Fr Colin which first appeared in the parish bulletin and which offer a reflection on different aspects of Catholic faith. Please click here to read the 'snippets'.

More adult faith education opportunities will be added here as they are organised......
