Just how far is the leap from teaching in a primary school classroom to advising the United Nations Economic and Social Council? Dr Carol Zinn has done both, and at Australia’s premier mission conference in Sydney in May, she will share some of what she has learnt along the way.
The Sister of St Joseph from Chestnut Hill will open and close the ‘Mission: one heart many voices’ conference, which will be held from 13-15 May 2019 at the SMC Conference and Function Centre in Sydney.
Dr Zinn served as the main representative of the Congregations of St Joseph, an NGO which holds General Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council. Representing over 15,000 Josephite Sisters from 57 countries, Dr Zinn brought years of experience and credentials to the role.
She will share that experience with an audience of close to 500 people on the first day of the fourth biennial conference, which focuses on themes of radical inclusion, encounter and dialogue.
Dr Zinn holds multiple degrees in education leadership and theology and was a research fellow at Harvard University on the topic of leadership and transformation. She will deliver keynotes on leadership for mission and becoming a Church for 2020.
‘As a highly qualified professional who is renowned for educating others for mission, Dr Zinn’s contribution to the conference will be invaluable,’ says Peter Gates, Deputy National Director of Catholic Mission, which is delivering the conference in partnership with Catholic Religious Australia.
‘Her vision for us all as a global Church on mission is timely as we in Australia continue to prepare for Plenary Council 2020.’
In between, the conference will include over 50 workshops, masterclasses and forum discussions on the pertinent challenges and opportunities for the Church, its agencies and communities, as it traverses a critical time in its history.
Guest presenters include the Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Culture, Bishop Paul Tighe, the Coordinator of Murri Ministry, Ravina Waldren, and director of Edmund Rice Australia and President of the Refugee Council of Australia, Phil Glendenning AM.
