Catholic Schools Broken Bay says it is proud of the strong performance of its students in the 2025 NAPLAN assessments, particularly in light of another poor result from other schools at a national level.

These results are the outcome of deliberate and sustained efforts under CSBBs Towards 2025 Strategy to strengthen teaching and learning,” said CSBB Director of Schools, Danny Casey.

“Central to this success is a focus on targeted and explicit teaching, aligned closely with the standards of the NSW curriculum. This ensures all students are taught the essential knowledge and skills that matter most.”

CSBB has developed a strong culture of professional learning which supports teachers to deepen their understanding of curriculum content while building a rich knowledge of their learners. Teachers are equipped not only to deliver content effectively but also to differentiate instruction in response to students’ individual needs.

Mr Casey also said, “Across CSBB, schools have implemented consistent practices to monitor and track student progress against expected standards. This approach enables timely and informed instructional decisions, ensuring that no student is left behind.”

The results were positive in comparison to results across Australia, which showed one third of students weren’t meeting expectations for literacy and numeracy.

About 10 per cent of students are so far behind they require additional support to catch up to their peers, while about one-fifth are rated as merely “developing” toward expectations.

  • In reading, on average 9.3 per cent of students were at the “needs additional support” level
  • In numeracy, on average 9.2 per cent of students were at the “needs additional support” level
  • In writing, on average 9.4 per cent of students were at the “needs additional support” level

The strong result of CSBB compared to the rest of the country was an indication of the strength of collaborative leadership across CSBB schools and the system-wide commitment to providing every student with access to high-quality learning opportunities.

“The 2025 NAPLAN results affirm our belief in the power of teacher professionalism, evidence-informed practice, and the importance of knowing every learner,” said Mr Casey.

“Catholic Schools Broken Bay remains focused on continuous improvement to ensure every student is supported to thrive—academically, spiritually, and personally.”
